Keratin Hair Loss
Much like you, before I had a keratin treatment done I read a TON of reviews online and one of the complaints I read about was hair loss after the treatment. Honestly I wasn’t really concerned because out of about 2000 reviews I read (seriously, I’ve cried after a salon appointment enough times in my life) there were very few that experienced hair loss. Also, I lose more hair every day than most people have on their heads!
Of course I still watched how much hair I lost the first time I washed my hair after I had my keratin blowout. What I think happens, is that most people forget how much hair they lose each day. When you have a full keratin treatment you can’t wash your hair for 72 hours, which is 3 days. So the first time you wash your hair, you are going to wash out enough hair for 3 days of showering that you didn’t complete! That is a lot of hair!
We typically lose 100 hairs every day, so if you are average you will be shedding 300 hairs on that third day when you shower. As you can imagine, that can be quite a shocking hair loss to most people, but if you remember that it’s 3 days worth of normal hair loss, you won’t be scared.
The other thing to remember is that you shouldn’t use a shampoo or conditioner with salt in it after you’ve had a keratin treatment. Using one could increase the amount of hair loss you see and strip the keratin much quicker.
